Welcome to the Module Payroll. The main objective of this module is to provide you with a basic understanding of the Canadian payroll system. This module provides an overview of the requirements for processing payroll calculations, and disbursing the payroll to employees, government agencies, and other parties, in compliance with Canadian and Quebec laws, regulations, and contractual arrangements. In other words, you will learn how to apply payroll legislation and calculate individual pay. This includes all components of individual pay from remuneration, through deductions, to net pay. As well, you will learn how to calculate taxable earnings, deduct correct statutory withholdings (Federal and Provincial Income Taxes, QPP, QPIP and EI) and arrive at correct net pay.
Furthermore, you will be equipped with the skills of understanding both manual and computerized payroll, thus becoming proficient in the accounting software Sage 50 Accounting 2020. Specifically, you will be introduced to the following topics:
Upon completion of this module, you will attain the skills necessary to complete all payroll functions for small to medium businesses, including journalizing payroll entries, issuing payments, managing payroll benefits and reporting to Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Ministere du Revenu du Quebec (MRQ) and various other agencies Student’s Responsibility This module is very short therefore it is important for students to attend all classes. If you are absent from class it is your responsibility to find out what was done in class from a classmate. Furthermore, classes will be more productive if you arrive to class well-prepared. Moreover, students are responsible for completing assignments on their own, and at their own pace; since, these assignments are not group projects. At the end of each class, your instructor will tell you what subject will be covered at the next class and will emphasize the materials that are of importance. Evaluation At the end of the module there will be a three hour examination. You must attain 80% in order to successfully complete the module. |
